When elona looked like vlox but with monks
When lulu was the only American team that could take and holdfavor
When assassins "tumbled" when they ran
Air of enchantment smiters....
when r3 iway nubs held over r9+ groups (cuz iway was nub)

remember when the HP standard of all classes was half the level of today?
remember when War Machine had the most feared build in the world with 4 W/Mo and 4 M/W?
remember when we were racing for 1st on the beta weekend ladder between WM, nO, Te, BE, Nu, No1, iQ, and IVEX?
do you remember the first spike build on the second beta weekend, 8 E/R using pets to buffer damage?
remember when luluthemonk had rank 9 on week 2?
remember when I Sell Sigils P S T found the smite abuse bug and KO'd you on the HOH altar for 850 dmg/s?
remember when you had to kill the rifts before tombs started?
remember when EP's smurf Jet Li lost it's first game played and proceeded to 118 wins in a row with the necro flagger? The most impressive GvG feat of all time, to end the legendary streak to a 6 minute 37 second game to VIKI without disconnects?
remember the hype of season 3 GvG ladder when the top guilds and players quit tombs for the first world championship, and the observer feature was released? For the big 10, the race was on: EviL, EP, ZPZG, Te, WM, Uni, VIKI, EW, iQ, EnS
remember the chaos that ensued when DoP took the VIM monk and echo/fear me warriors to several hundred HoH wins in the span of 2 weeks?
remember when Marvel Superheros would, regardless of how down in the fight 1v2 they were, find some way to hold on between the 5 ranger interrupts?
do you remember when EW would never lose a gvg in ESL? acidic, electron theory, dephria... 3 of the players I was most scared of to run into in GvG
the lightning fast infuse from the machine that was Little Blueflower? While it's impossible to say there's a best monk, in the era of spike there was one name to fear above all
do you remember Grom Doombringer and how int1 used to be?
I remember. How is this game these days anyways? A part of me always wanted to play again but I feel like it wouldn't be the same

Things I remember are dying to that enemy in the cave in pre searing...
Feeling really lost when first in post searing Ascalon
Trying out the pre-set templates in GvG. I think everyone in the guild I was in wanted to be warrriors. There was a ranger on other side and everyone was scared by his bear pet :O
55 Monk Farming
When green weapons weren't worthless
Ursan noobs...
Old guidies and cool but disbanded guilds
There's so many things but hard to list them all down.

Which BWE were you talking about? half those guilds didn't exist or compete in the BWEs...worth noting that The Fianna was a guild made up from some of the best players involved in alpha testing GWs, some had been playing since 2002 and a few were semi-pro SC players which ArenaNet knew from their Blizzard days to help test the game. LoTD is another Alpha guild, as was WM/KOR...and BE, ZoS. Nerf is the ArenaNet guild.
World Preview Event weekend:
Beta Weekend 1
Beta Weekend 2
Final Weekend, I(gl of [PALO]) and our team from the BWs didn't compete in this as lots of people away and we'd been heavily involved in alpha getting everything ready for release and so took it easy.
It's worth mention that WM is the Korean god-like WM, not the useless US WM and No1 == KOR, which later went on to become The Last Pride[EvIL](with a few member changes) who were the best team ever, hands down, only a few teams ever beat them straight up(ie EvIL had no disconnects etc) WM/Te/Wi/iQ/Char too, but can't remember the 4th for sure, prolly either Val/iB or EW. I think Wi/Te were the only teams to beat them more than once. They would have continued and gone on to finish 1st every season, but half their team got called up for military duty so could rarely play, and so 2006 was their last active year.

Stepn Vapor Rub from [Te] was widely regarded as the best US monk, Soul Wedding/Only One Star from [EvIL] the best in the game.

Most of those names are very familiar but I could have sworn guilds like nO and WM we're competing since beta weekend 1... I remember specific games :/ Thanks for those screens though, that's a real throwback haha.
And I'm not claiming anyone to be the best monk. I played vs both of them many times and I agree that they're very skilled, amongst the best. Most of the Korean community was kind of separated, they always had very different ideas about which guilds were strong compared to NA and EU and there were a lot of extremely talented players nobody will remember because they changed aliases a lot. During the time I played with VIKI we often scrimmed and sometimes subbed-in players for ladder between WM, EviL, Uni, VIKI, ZPZG, and a couple others. LBF was the monk everyone would try to grab first for games when he was on, he was very highly respected from all teams including EviL, who recruited members from our team to their GvG core when we disbanded.
Another example, ZPZG may be one of the most underrated guilds to play this game. While they weren't regarded as one of the better teams from NA and EU players, they were always the team everyone struggled to beat in practice... it was very difficult to take games off of them. They had very creative builds and were hugely influential on how we played KOR GvG in that era.

I remember when skill updates at least made the ATTEMPT to balance the metagame and produce fun PvP. Now when we get a skill update, it's just to introduce a bunch of new, stupidly overpowered, gamebreaking skills that have been creating without considering the consequences of their introduction.

That's once again linked to their logic we get in updates for exactly 2 years now..
When i was playing GvG earlier and fought i don't know how many people doing red resign on low rating ( usually with multi launch or 2 + 4 henchs), i wondered if this was really the main Guild Wars pvp format...( on the same resort, i was wondering why i couldn't just GvG alone with 4 henchs since abusers can...)
I actually think that the biggest problem in skills is that on pre-eotn, they were more or less all balanced and skills which were considered OP weren't as OP as dervishs or invokers today( iway or bspike are a joke if we compare..)
Today, it's just creating big disparities between PvE and PvP, and furthermore inside all PvP formats....
One one hand it's needed to make beginners get into PvP with bars they're confident with in PvE, but on the other hand it's just not doing anything as beginners will get rolled by experienced people using mirror builds ( most of the time)
However, the positive point( probably the only one) is that they tried to make all ele elites look cool and not only one or two... That could be fine to make, like in the past, many builds used and not only a single meta...
side note: that's quite sad though that not any single guild mentionned above is still playing the game..

Do you remember back when 90% of the snowball days didn't have joke flux ruining them like this year (with only 2 days of real snowball play without flux)

Yeah, so funny to see all the new "good" guilds get destroyed in the last 2 days cause the flux ended.

I remember in 2006 when people would freak out on you in RA for not having Res Sig or for not using Res Sig when you were the last one left and the other team has four alive.
Now people freak on you for bringing Res Sig or for using Res Sig when you're the last one left and the other team has four alive.
